Farewell to Andrea de Adamich, a legend of Italian motorsport

Andrea de Adamich.

Andrea de Adamich has passed away today at the age of 84 — a man who left a profound mark on the history of Italian motorsport.

Born in Trieste in 1941, de Adamich built a multifaceted career: from the Italian Formula 3 Championship, to his double victory with Alfa Romeo in the Touring Car Championships, and then to his years in Formula 1 with Ferrari, McLaren, March, Surtees, and Brabham. He alternated top-level racing with appearances in the World Sportscar Championship, where he claimed two victories, both with Alfa Romeo.

After retiring from competition, he continued to dedicate his life to motorsport — both as a television commentator for Mediaset and as the founder (in 1991) of the International Centre for Safe Driving in Varano de’ Melegari. In recognition of his achievements, on June 2, 2022, he was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

We had previously dedicated a more in-depth editorial portrait to him.

His name will forever remain tied to the Motor Valley and to the history of Italian motorsport. The Motor Valley community extends its condolences to his loved ones and to all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
