It was 1988 when Luigi Ghirri turned his attention to Maranello, not far from the town where the photographer was born and lived, Scandiano, in the province of Reggio Emilia.
The protagonists of his photographs are the workers at the Ferrari factory and the factory itself. Ghirri captures the workers immersed in the characteristic gestures of their work, in a moment of concentration that seems suspended and serene. The impression they give is that they are completely unaware of the photographer’s presence, and the effect that results is that of having frescoes of their everyday life in front of us. Despite the stillness that photographs inherently involve, the subjects in Ghirri’s shots seem to be animated by a certain movement of body and thoughts.
Finally, here’s a series of photos by Ghirri dedicated to the Ferrari Junior Agostini, a scale model of the F40.
