CEO Bugatti - Rimac

Inspired by his compatriot, Nikola Tesla, Mate Rimac – even as a child – has always been fascinated by invention, exemplified by his early schoolboy innovations like the ‘Electric Glove’ – designed to replace a mouse and keyboard. He had filed two patents by the age of 17. His breakthrough came at 19 with the start of a transformation of his 1984 BMW E30 into a record-breaking electric vehicle, setting five FIA-approved and Guinness World Records. That was the spark that ignited Rimac Automobili in 2011 and Mate's dream to build his own all-electric supercar.

Under Mate's leadership, Rimac Automobili defied expectations by releasing the Concept_One, the first true electric supercar, boasting 1224hp and a sophisticated all- wheel drive and torque-vectoring system that eclipsed the performance of its hypercar contemporaries. This was not just a triumph of engineering but a bold declaration of the electric powertrain's potential. In 2021, the Rimac Nevera was revealed as the ultimate evolution of Mate's dream; a car with not a single shared component with its predecessor, Concept_One, and a paradigm shift in hypercar performance, later becoming the ultimate record-breaking hypercar.

Just 15 years following Mate's establishment of his company, the Rimac Group has evolved into a multifaceted entity. It comprises Rimac Technology, which manages the development, production, and distribution of battery systems and drivetrains to leading car manufacturers worldwide. Additionally, there's the newly formed Bugatti Rimac joint company, bringing together Rimac Automobili's EV hypercar technology with Bugatti's century-old tradition of automotive excellence. The Rimac Group will soon be headquartered at the company’s new €200M state-of-the-art global HQ in Croatia, with its first phase completed in 2024.
