The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia was founded in 1175 and has since evolved and expanded to the present day, where the courses of study currently available are organised according to the following departments:
– Surgical, medical, dental and morphological sciences with an interest in transplantology, oncology and regenerative medicine
– Communication and Economics
– Economics
– Education and Humanities
– Law
– Engineering
– Biomedical, Metabolic and Neuroscience
– Chemical and Geological Sciences
– Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences
– Maternal and Adult Medical and Surgical Sciences
– Engineering Sciences and Methods
– Life Sciences
– Language and Cultural Studies

These, in turn, are spread over three teaching sites: Modena, Reggio Emilia and Mantua.
