The European automotive industry is facing an unprecedented crisis. The failure to recover pre-COVID volumes in Europe, loss of competitiveness in the Chinese market for high-end vehicles due to technological gaps in electric vehicles, and the lack of advanced software features (such as driver assistance, entertainment, and digitalization) have all contributed to the industry’s struggles.

Additionally, the inability to meet the CO₂ targets set in Europe—due to low demand for low-emission vehicles and the absence of small, competitively priced cars (except those from China) is driving the industry toward a further decline in volumes.
Large-scale restructurings are imminent at both the OEM level and throughout the supply chain.

It is therefore essential to quickly identify targeted, clear actions to manage and contain this phenomenon, laying the groundwork for a potential path to recovery. This dynamic, though on different timelines and with varying approaches, also applies to goods mobility and the aftermarket sector.
