Paolo Garella (born 1959) is a mechanical engineer with extensive experience in automotive special projects. He began his career at Goodyear, developing tires for high-performance cars of the 1980s, before joining Pininfarina, where he led prototype engineering and exclusive one-off projects, including numerous commissions for the Brunei Royal Family.
As Special Projects Manager (2002–2009), he oversaw iconic one-offs like the Ferrari P4/5, Ferrari 612 Kappa, Rolls-Royce Hyperion, and New Stratos, along with major restorations. After leaving Pininfarina in 2009, he became an independent consultant before founding Manifattura Automobili Torino (M.A.T.) in 2014.
Under Garella’s leadership, M.A.T. has established itself as a boutique automotive manufacturer capable of conceiving, designing, developing, and building entirely new vehicles—both racing and road-legal—from scratch or by evolving existing donor cars. Clients can initiate projects based on a unique combination of dreams and desires. Significant projects include the SCG003C and SCG003S and the Apollo IE. In January 2018, M.A.T. launched the New Stratos limited series, based on Pininfarina’s one-off.
Alongside to New Stratos, Ing. Garella has been driving M.A.T. for over 10 years, creating a series of iconic projects, from the Jewerly line to a jump into EV. Through the partnership with Japanese company Aspark, M.A.T. developed the Owl, a Guinness world record holder EV hypercar. One of the most recent endeavour of this partnership was the SP600, a car capable to break the world record for fastest EV with a 438.7 km/h top speed.
