In the current context, inflation—triggered by the pandemic and worsened by complex geopolitical scenarios such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East—is showing signs of gradual slowdown. Major central banks, including the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the Bank of England, have already begun implementing monetary easing policies, with two or three interest rate cuts in recent months.
Equity markets remain close to all-time highs, buoyed by optimism around the prospect of a soft economic landing. However, the election of the new U.S. President, Donald Trump, introduces significant discontinuity, particularly regarding protectionist trade policies, export restrictions, and potential impacts on global trade balances. We are already witnessing major changes in public investment strategies and environmental commitments, with direct consequences for key sectors such as the automotive industry, which is already under significant strain in Europe.
In response to these challenges, many companies have initiated restructuring processes, but attracting new investment will be essential to support the competitiveness of the industrial system. Private capital is expected to play a crucial role, supported by a robust and dynamic financial market as well as targeted public programs.
In this evolving scenario, the focus on sustainability, along with the demand for traceability, audits, and compliance, may undergo a process of recalibration in light of shifting economic and industrial priorities. After a period of uncertainty, Private Equity and Venture Capital appear poised to regain momentum, driving innovation and supporting the launch of a new cycle of growth.
