Sculptors of Speed: Masterpieces by Modenese Coachbuilders

Expo

Palazzo dei Musei (piano terra) in Largo Porta Sant’Agostino

“Sculptors of Speed”, conceived by Jean Marc Borel, is a unique collection forged under the hammer of Modena’s greatest coachbuilders — the very same artisans who crafted the bodies of five automobiles that today dominate the world of automotive art.

The story of the Modenese Master Coachbuilders is one of the most captivating in the automotive world.
It is the extraordinary tale of unmatched artisans who, with passion and talent, gave life to legendary masterpieces.
These are hand-shaped aluminum bodies, crafted like Renaissance sculptors using nothing more than a set of hammers, a tree stump, a sack of sand, a pair of shears, and a workbench.
ModenArt invites everyone on a wonderful journey to discover the genius of these gifted individuals, whose creations are celebrated worldwide. Their works, personally made and signed, will be displayed as sublime examples of modern automotive sculpture.

Visitors will be able to admire gleaming aluminum bodyworks, as well as full-size mockups and 1:3 scale models of Modena-born superstars never before seen together — including the Ferrari 250 GT California, the Bugatti EB110, and, as a major highlight born from years of work by Afro Gibellini and his team: the 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, the 1968 Ferrari 312 P Berlinetta, the 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO, and a 1:3 scale “filone” of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.
After exhibitions in Rome (at the Ministry of Made in Italy), Paris (at the headquarters of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Council), and Turin (at ASI’s Villa Rey), the ModenArt exhibition returns to Modena.
The choice to host it on the ground floor of the Palazzo dei Musei creates a symbolic dialogue between sculptural genius from different eras.
This level of the Palazzo dei Musei in Largo Sant’Agostino — home to the former Oratory Hall, the Este and Roman Lapidary, the Graziosi Plaster Cast Gallery, and the DIDA educational lab — is a vibrant cultural space that regularly hosts events and tours to highlight its historical heritage.
The presence of Sculptors of Speed during Motor Valley Fest is a fantastic opportunity not only to admire these automotive masterpieces but also to explore one of Modena’s cultural treasures.

📍 The exhibition, with free admission, is set up on the ground floor of the Palazzo dei Musei in Largo Porta Sant’Agostino, Modena, and aims to share the rich history of Modena’s master coachbuilders and their hand-shaped aluminum bodies with the public.
