The European automotive industry may still be able to bridge the software gap with Chinese and American competitors, such as Xiaomi, Tesla, and Lucid, which offer advanced packages for mapping, entertainment, digital services, and autonomous driving. This “software-defined vehicle” approach has enabled China to achieve a position of global leadership.

The ultimate goal is the adoption and extension of Level 4 and 5 autonomous driving. Currently, these solutions have already been implemented on a large scale in various locations in China and the United States after a testing phase. In Europe, however, the process is hampered by the complexity of obtaining necessary authorizations, slowing down large-scale adoption.

As vehicles become fully autonomous and connected, cybersecurity will become critically important. Protecting vehicles from cyber threats will be essential to ensuring user safety and trust in an increasingly digitalized environment.
