Ernesto Desiderio is an Italian Formula 1 Race Engineer, born and raised in Tuscany, he studied Aerospace Engineering and Vehicle Dynamics at Pisa University and Chicago University, he has over a decade of International Motorsport experience in many top racing categories such as Formula 1, WEC, NASCAR and IndyCar, where he had the opportunity to work and grow alongside many professional drivers.
Having been a fan of motorsports since his childhood, he decided to turn his passion into his job. After graduation he started working in the racing industry, first with Dallara in Italy as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, later as Performance and Lead Simulator Engineer at the Dallara Research Centre in Indianapolis, working alongside IndyCar Teams and also with one of the most established NASCAR team, Richard Childress Racing as Performance and Simulator Engineer He then moved in Germany for a new challenge with Toyota Motorsport, competing in the WEC both in 2016 and 2017, leading to the first Le Mans win of the Japanese manufacturer in 2018, alongside K. Kobayashi, F.Alonso, S.Buemi, M.Conway, J.M Lopez, K. Nakajima.
The Formula 1 call arrived that year, when he joined Haas Formula 1 Team, as an Aero Performance Engineer initially to soon step up as Romain Grosjean’s Performance Engineer until the famous crash that saw the French driver out for the remaining part of the 2020 season, where he shifted for few races in helping the young Pietro Fittipaldi in his F1 debut. He later engineered Nikita Mazepin and Mick Shumacher. After four years with the American F1 team, Ernesto was recruited by the British Williams Racing Team as Nicholas Latifi’s Race Engineer, where he paired with the Canadian for one and a half years before jumping to the next challenge with the Scuderia AlphaTauri, now Racing Bulls, to take the Race Engineer position for the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda. He is currently Liam Lawson Race Engineer.
Ernesto combines an extensive technical knowledge with an ability to provide effective mental support to his drivers, focusing on their needs and challenges. This has led him to create a strong relationship of friendship and trust with all the racing drivers he has worked with over the years. Together with the many scientific publications, Ernesto became an author in 2021, when he published his book, “Formula One Race Engineering – Optimizing a Driver’s Performance with a Winning Method”, where through a simple yet effective process he created, the P-D-R® (Perception-Decision-Reaction), offers a unique insight into race drivers training and development. orsa
