The adoption of electric mobility is slowing globally, with challenges linked to the rollout of charging infrastructure, especially in sparsely connected rural areas. Progress in this transition will be monitored until 2026, but alternative technologies such as hydrogen, synthetic fuels, and fuel cells are being considered to complement electric mobility. Sustainable mobility also requires new services, including charging networks, shared electric fleets, and localization solutions.
It is essential to distinguish between sustainable solutions for people and goods, as they are not always interchangeable. Many decisions about the ecological transition have yet to be translated into concrete industrial plans.
In particular, Europe is discussing bringing forward the review to 2025 and delaying fleet average CO₂ targets, with heavy fines for non-compliance. Unlike other regions in the world, there is no blanket ban on combustion engines set for any specific date.
