Francesco Bagnaia and Ducati 2023 MotoGP World Champions

History repeats itself: Francesco Bagnaia is the 2023 MotoGP World Champion. Thanks to a win in the Valencia GP season finale, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider secured his second world title in the premier class. Having made history for being the first Italian rider to win in MotoGP with an Italian motorcycle last year, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider has now written another important chapter in motorcycle racing history by reconfirming himself on the top of the world with his Desmosedici GP.

For the Bagnaia-Ducati duo it has been another emotional journey with 7 successes achieved in the 20 GPs and 4 victories in the Saturday Sprint races, introduced this year in the event program. From his first win in the inaugural Grand Prix at Portimão, to an unforgettable success in Jerez, to triumph in front of his home crowd at Mugello, up to his great wins in the Netherlands and Austria, Pecco and his Desmosedici GP’s march towards a second title seemed to be unstoppable, but the dramatic accident at Barcelona, from which the rider from Chivasso fortunately emerged with bruises but no fractures, put a halt to his rise.

With Jorge Martín increasingly in tune with his Pramac Racing team Desmosedici GP, the fight for the world title soon became a head-to-head between the two Ducati riders. However, Bagnaia’s response did not take long to arrive and with another spectacular victory in Indonesia, coming back from thirteenth position on the grid, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider resumed his climb to the top of the World Championship.

Today’s exciting finale at Valencia saw Bagnaia start from first on the grid following a penalty for Viñales (Aprilia) in the warm-up and the rider from Chivasso made the most of his advantage with a great start. At Turn 1 of lap 2 Martin made a late braking move on Pecco to try and take the lead, but they touched, and the Spaniard went wide. Martin then crashed out on lap 6, bringing an end to the title battle. Bagnaia inherited the lead on lap 19 when Miller (KTM) crashed at Turn 11.

Alvaro Bautista is the 2023 Superbike World Champion

Alvaro Bautista is the 2023 World Superbike Champion. It has been an extraordinary season for the Spanish rider who, riding the Ducati Panigale V4 of the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team, today took his 25th victory of a memorable championship, winning the world title for the second year in a row.

For Ducati it is the sixteenth WorldSBK Riders’ Title, making the overall record for the category even more solid. Alvaro Bautista and the Ducati Panigale V4R of the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team, together with team-mate Michael Rinaldi and Danilo Petrucci of the Barni team and Axel Bassani of the Motocorsa team, also contributed to the Manufacturers’ title (the nineteenth in Ducati’s history) obtained at the eleventh round held at the end of September at Portimao (Portugal).

Stefano Cecconi (Team Principal Aruba.it Racing – Ducati): “This result makes us extremely happy and proud not only because it highlights the extraordinary work carried out by Alvaro and the whole team, but also because it is proof that last year’s victory rested on extremely solid foundations that have allowed us to reconfirm ourselves. From the outside it may have looked like a season in ‘control’, but instead we had to overcome many obstacles, a few mistakes of our own, and opponents who were, as always, incredibly tough. However, Alvaro and the whole team have always reacted with clear ideas, strong determination, and also some masterpieces like the last race at Portimao that I think will remain in the books of Superbike.

Claudio Domenicali (Ducati CEO): “In this historic moment of the Superbike World Championship, Alvaro Bautista and the Ducati Panigale V4 R are the best combination an enthusiast could wish for. The incredible performance offered by the motorcycle and the technical and psychological mastery with which Bautista has managed this season, setting a new record for victories in a single Championship, have created a great spectacle in every race weekend. The Bautista-Panigale V4 R combination has made it possible to achieve a result that fills us with joy and gives value to all the choices made in recent years by Ducati in WorldSBK. The reconfirmation of the World Riders’ Title, in addition to the World Manufacturers’ Title, is not something to be taken for granted: we have entered the 2023 season with the new Panigale V4 R characterized by a series of innovative technical solutions for the engine, and these have proven to be successful, confirming the Panigale to be the best motorcycle on the grid.

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati #1): “It was an unforgettable year also because we managed to win by beating the competition of strong riders like Toprak and Johnny. Defending a title is always very difficult and for this reason I am really proud of what we have done this season. I chose at the beginning of the year to put the number one on the bike to make this challenge even more exciting. I want to thank the whole team for the extraordinary work that has allowed me to have a fantastic feeling with the Panigale V4R. My goal was to have fun and I had a great time. And thanks of course to Aruba.it and Ducati for believing in me. To win here, in front of my family and so many fans was an immense joy.

Auto e Moto d’Epoca: October 26-29, the international appointment of Italian Classic moves to Bologna

Boom of European exhibitors, major historic manufacturers and clubs, the most important Heritage collections and the latest models yet to be seen on the road or track. The 40th edition of Auto e Moto d’Epoca will mark a new chapter in the history of the Classic Show, as it will be the first to be held at the Bologna Fairgrounds, in the heart of Motor Valley.

Every year, Auto e Moto d’Epoca, attracts visitors from more than 45 countries around the world, becoming a recognized event on the international calendar and the most important marketplace for historic vehicles in Europe.

Exhibition space doubled

The 2023 edition represents a turning point that will allow the Italian Classic to realize its full potential. In the new setting of BolognaFiere, in fact, the show doubles the available exhibition space, with a total of 235 thousand square meters distributed in 11 pavilions and 4 access gates, as well as more than 14,500 covered parking spaces for visitors and exhibitors. An important new feature this year is the introduction of an entire pavilion, 21, dedicated exclusively to vintage motorcycles, a true “Salon within the Salon.”

The first motorcycle show

The new pavilion dedicated to historic motorcycles is, in fact, one of the big new features of this edition, with 15,000 square meters of exhibition space. The goal of the Motorcycle Show will be to show motorcycle enthusiasts a cultural heritage they have never before seen brought together. Among the exhibits will be a Honda-signed racing world motorcycle displayed in a world premiere with the participation of the multi-award winning Lucio Cecchinello Racing Team and the historic 750 Honda K0; a special focus on BMW Motorrad history for the brand’s 100th anniversary; and several examples from the important Battilani Collection of Imola, one of the most renowned in Italy for the quality and quantity of its motorcycles (300) and, in particular, for Italian examples from its origins to the 1940s.

Collector pieces

Celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the Mauto Collection, National Automobile Museum, and the presence of other important European museum institutions are expected. Also nourished by the presence of historic clubs and registers, each present with the cars and two-wheelers that have turned motoring history into a heritage to be cherished. The Registro Internazionale Touring Superleggera, for example, will display one of the world’s first road-going Ferraris: the Berlinetta 195 LM Coupé Superleggera, a car identical to the one in which Count Giannino Marzotto won the 1950 1000 Miglia.

The Registry’s booth will also feature the 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Cabriolet Turinga, one of the rare cars of the coachbuilder produced with the Italianized name in deference to the autarkic imposition of the Ventennio period. There are also many new entries linked to the history and passion of the Motor Valley, such as the Scuderia San Martino and the Automobile Museum of San Martino in Rio, which will present a double stand together, with two cars more than 100 years old and a surprise related to the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans (which turns 100 this year).

The big automotive companies

The space dedicated to the automakers is an opportunity to admire new models and discover their origins: construction philosophies, sporting history and technological progress mingle, uniting past and future and conveying the values and culture of the manufacturer over time. Dedicated to the red thread that unites in continuity the historic cars with the new models released on the market is the participation of important Brands such as: Alpine, BMW Motorrad, Bentley, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, FCA Heritage Gruppo Stellantis, Mclaren, Mercedes Benz Italia, Toyota Motor Italia and Volvo Cars Italia.

Market and spare parts market

Auto e Moto d’Epoca is the largest vintage vehicle and parts market in Europe, capable of satisfying almost all the desires of collectors and restorers and able to let everyone find the historic car, motorcycle or spare part they are looking for. The range of cars, motorcycles, spare parts, automobilia and memorabilia covers the entire horizon of historic motoring and motorcycling. The auto market ranges from the unique models of 1930s artisan coachbuilders to the most promising Youngtimers. The parts section offers a complete overview of original and ‘new vintage’ parts: from mechanics to electrical components, from documents to car radios of the past.

The Mall

A central area, a junction between the different pavilions, dedicated to the most important companies specializing in the care, restoration and technologies serving classic cars and motorcycles. Among the offerings: gears, mufflers, 3D printed parts to original designs, and many products for care and restoration.

Design, vintage, tailoring and motor art

Vintage designer clothes, accessories, watches, interior design, motor art and handcrafted creations make the visit even more inspiring. Auto e Moto d’Epoca is also unique in the quality and variety of its exhibitors. Among the pavilions you will find professional designers and motor art artists, petroliana-style creations, paintings dedicated to the history of motoring, vintage and handcrafted sartorial garments of the highest quality and unique design pieces inspired by the world of travel.

Moto GP at Misano: unveiled the official poster

With the presentation of the 2023 poster, the countdown begins to mark the approach to the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Riviera di Rimini, scheduled to take place at Misano World Circuit from 8 to 10 September 2023.

Preparations are intensifying for the events scheduled in San Marino and on the Rimini Riviera, which by consolidated tradition will accompany the show at Misano World Circuit, where last year more than 100 thousand spectators flocked over the weekend, welcomed in a real motor park. MotoGP is a strategic event for the hospitality industry and the economic spin-off produced, associated with worldwide media visibility, is also a strategic element in tourism promotion.

Red Bull new title sponsor

The communication activity is enriched by a prestigious partner such as Red Bull, and the multi-year agreement includes the inclusion in the event name of a brand that is already a protagonist in many areas of motorsports, to which is added the role of ‘title sponsor’ for the event that takes place on the territory and on the track at the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix.

It will be a global involvement that will see Red Bull as a player, together with the promoters, in the territorial marketing project that aims to tell the world about the virtuous link between a place, Riders’ Land, and its drivers.

Red Bull, extraordinarily effective in its communication campaigns all over the world, will be an integral part of the communication project and events scheduled on the eve of the Grand Prix, summed up in the hashtag #Racevolution.

“The support as title sponsor of Red Bullcomment the promoters Republic of San Marino, Emilia-Romagna Region, Province of Rimini and Santa Monica SpArepresents a significant added value for us all. When we approached this great adventure we took it as a challenge to transform a sporting event into a territorial marketing lever, where communication represented and represents a fundamental element. Having Red Bull at our side, which represents the vanguard in this field, brings us an upgrade towards the promotion of our entire territory. Precisely for this reason, together with Dorna and Red Bull we have drawn up a three-year development plan that will see Misano World Circuit, the tourist economic system of the Republic of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera, at the centre of the project”.

The poster by Aldo Drudi

The leitmotif of the communication project is the 2023 poster, once again born from the creativity of Aldo Drudi and Drudi Performance.

‘We had a lot of fun making this poster,’ commented Aldo Drudi, ‘and we are very satisfied with the result. The opportunity was fantastic: to tune Red Bull, a brand that has a resounding and recognised communicative power, with the work we have been doing over the last few years, since we take care of the artistic part of the Grand Prix. However, combining two established and winning images also represented a risk. We began to assess the possibilities which, magically, aligned when we chose to place the Red Bull reference and the drivers’ silhouettes on the graphic mat that we have been using for a few years now to personalise the curves of the circuit, a texture which makes it unique and which has allowed us to make a difference all over the world. We used the same strokes on Red Bull’s identification colours, which, as it happens, recall the sun, the sea and the sky. Thus we have once again managed to contextualise the Grand Prix on our Riviera and San Marino’.

The 2023 poster also contains another novelty, a real Grand Prix logo.

“We created it by uniting the naming with the Red Bull brand through a stylised helmet with the same graphic signs, all magically harmonised,” adds Drudi. “We are satisfied that we have once again created an original, colourful campaign, without resorting to computer-generated drawings or having to draw on virtual images. It was almost magical to be able to merge these two worlds, two powerful images that blend in this graphic work without disrespecting them’.

Ferrari 499P wins on debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans

Ferrari won the Centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the 499P driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, who shared the number 51 car with James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, covering 342 laps of the French track. The Maranello manufacturer claimed an historic result on its return to the top class after half a century, with the Ferrari – AF Corse team triumphing in the world’s most famous endurance race.

At the chequered flag Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen finished fifth in the 499P number 50, delayed during the night by repairs that knocked the crew out of contention for the podium, despite an excellent performance that saw them climb several places back up the standings.

The Ferrari 499Ps started from the top two positions on the grid with Hypercar numbers 50 and 51, respectively, thanks to the times posted during the Hyperpole when Fuoco took pole.

This was the Prancing Horse’s tenth overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, to go with those collected in 1949, 1954, 1958, and 1960-1965. Ferrari’s history at Le Mans now comprises 39 victories, including 29 class wins.

With this result in round four of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship, Ferrari remains second in the Manufacturers’ standings, narrowing the gap to Toyota to 19 points.

Varano racetrack: from July 12 to 16, the Formula SAE returns

From July 12 to 16, the “R. Paletti” Autodrome in Varano de’ Melegari (Parma, Italy) will host the 18th edition of the famous international technical-sports competition dedicated to engineering students. The event represents a highly formative experience for tomorrow’s aspiring engineers, who are put to the test at the level of organizational skills, time management, team-working and illustration of the technical choices of the presented project.

Among the main novelties of this edition is the admission of nonplug-in hybrid cars in Class 1C reserved for combustion cars. Another important novelty is the presence of an official event regulation, revised to facilitate the participation of students who also measure themselves against other European formula students.

The last edition of the event, which took place in July 2022, saw the participation of about 1,700 students divided into 64 teams from 18 different countries. There were 2o Italian teams from 15 university universities.

The event also owes much of its success to the support of companies in the automotive and motorsport supply chain: in the last edition, there were 29 sponsors and 3 technical partners, in addition to 3 media partners and the patronage of the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality of Varano de’ Melegari and the Province of Parma. Once again for this 18th edition, the new range of sponsorship packages will enable companies to make the most of recruitment opportunities vis-à-vis participating students, as well as create valuable networks among the companies themselves.

Lamborghini presents Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in

In the marque’s 60th anniversary year, Automobili Lamborghini presents Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). Revuelto defines a new paradigm in terms of performance, sportiness and driving pleasure from its unprecedented new architecture; innovative design; maximum-efficiency aerodynamics; and a new carbon frame concept. An output of 1015 CV is delivered from the combined power of an entirely new combustion engine together with three electric motors, alongside a double-clutch gearbox that makes its debut on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini for the first time.

The powertrain combines high specific power elements: the new 127 CV/liter combustion engine works synergically with two front axial flux motors that deliver an outstanding weight-to-power ratio, with a radial flux electric motor positioned above the first eight-speed double-clutch gearbox debuting on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini. The three electric motors are powered by a lithium-ion high specific power (4500 W/kg) battery pack that also supports a fully-electric drive mode.

“The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions.”
